The House Trio is a Central Illinois group formed by guitarist Jose Gobbo, bassist Ben Taylor, and drummer Nikola Djokic. From December 2020 to 2021 they aired 52 consecutive weekly Livestreams on YouTube, exploring a repertoire of over 400 different tunes. Born online, the group made its way into real life and recorded the album “Live From Home” in May 2021, featuring 10 of Jose’s original compositions. They have performed in New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
Their sound is Brazilian, American, Serbian, jazz, pop, post-modern, you name it.

Jose Gobbo is a Brazilian jazz guitarist. He moved to Iowa City in 2011 to pursue his master's degree in Jazz Performance, and soon took a leadership role in the city's musical scene. His debut album as a leader was released in 2013, titled “Zé“, featuring Brazilian legendary multi-instrumentalist Roberto Sion. Other activities during that time include performances at the Iowa City Jazz Festival, International clarinet convention with Dr. Maurita Marx, John Rapson's recording of “The Night Sky and Turquoise Sea”. Moving to Illinois in 2014, Jose kept a busy a performance schedule while pursuing his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, which he completed in 2020. He appears regularly with the Brad Wheeler Quartet and the Chip Stephens Organ Trio, which opened the Steely Dan concert and recorded the album "Transgressions" in 2019. In 2020 Jose co-founded The House Trio with Ben Taylor and Nikola Djokic, which performed 52 consecutive weekly live streams on their YouTube Channel, and recorded the album "Live From Home", featuring 10 of Jose's original compositions. Jose also performs with his UIUC mentors Chip McNeill, Tito Carrillo, Larry Gray, Jim Pugh and Ron Bridgewater. In 2018, Jose was a finalist at Chicago's Luminarts Jazz Competition, wining popular vote, and was a semi-finalist at Milwaukee's Wilson Center Guitar.
He recently enjoyed the position of Artist In Residency at Allerton Park in Monticello, IL, which culminated on the solo album "Allerton Park Suite".
Ben Taylor has been performing with major jazz acts in central Illinois since the early 2000's. He was Donnie Heitler's first call bassist for over 10 years, and recorded albums with the band Ear Food featuring compositions by Tom Paynter.
Nikola Djokic is a Serbian native drummer who has just earned his doctorate in Jazz Performance at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His style involves the merging of complex Balkan rhythms with the jazz tradition. His recording with the Dr. Project Point Blank has over 15 million views on YouTube.
