Our Student Series presents our Merrimans' Play-House Players trumpeter, Maximilian Wilfinger. The concert will present Maximilian Wilfinger's Chordless Trio playing a tribute to Thelonious Monk. Inspired by a version of I Mean You played at the Hungry Brain in Chicago, we are excited to present a selection/tribute to Thelonious Monk in the form of a chordless trio! Naturally without containing the harmonically complex backing of Thelonious Monk's piano, a stronger focus is put on the melody and imagination in improvisation. Thelonious Monk was notorious for improvising on variations of the melodies he wrote. We hope to catch that spirit in presenting the exhilarating compositions of the great Thelonious Monk.
