Pianist and composer Matthew Fries brings his trio to Merrimans’ Playhouse. For this performance, Fries’ trio welcomes saxophonist Patrick Langham, adding his voice to the group’s deeply swinging, straight-ahead sound rooted in the tradition of the classic jazz piano trio. Fries’ music has been described as playful and hopeful, introspective, full of joy and wonderment, and awash with tonal colors. Together, the quartet will perform original music from Fries’ recordings, along with arrangements of familiar jazz standards and tunes by some of his musical heroes.
Patrick Langham - alto saxophone
Matthew Fries - piano
Carlo De Rosa - acoustic bass
