Larry, Terry, and Dawn is a jazz group led by Larry Dwyer on piano, with vocalists Terry Austin and Dawn Burns, accompanied by bassist Darrel Tidaback and drummer Kirk Wright.
Larry Dwyer has played jazz piano in South Bend for nearly five decades, and directs the jazz bands at the University of Notre Dame. He is inspired by the style of jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, and will play Oscar’s versions of On Green Dolphin Street and Sometimes I’m Happy, along with other songs.
Terry Austin has sung gospel music since his youth, and has performed popular songs both with his own group, Terry and the Heartbeats, and with The Motown Machine led by the late Bill Nicks. Terry Austin loves the music of Nat “King” Cole, and will sing many of Nat's hit songs, including Unforgettable, Nature Boy, and L-O-V-E.
Dawn Burns hosts “The Sauce” jazz radio show on WVPE, and enjoys singing both contemporary and standard jazz songs. Among the songs Dawn will sing are The Girl from Ipanema as done by Bebel Gilberto, Afro Blue as done by Lizz Wright, and Ella Fitzgerald’s version of Cheek to Cheek.
Darrel Tidaback and Kirk Wright have both played for many years with numerous jazz and pop groups in South Bend and elsewhere. Darrel has played frequently with many of the jazz performers at Merrimans’ Playhouse.
Larry, Terry, and Dawn will present an enjoyable program of jazz songs, both old and new, and always swinging.
