Our Home Grown/Chamber Arts Series presents the Hovan/Seitz Duo. Come and join us on this musical journey.

The Home Grown Series concerts made possible, in part, with support from the ArtsEverywhere Grant from the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.

The concert is titled "Suite Treats" and will feature suites from different historical periods from the Baroque through the 20th century. The purpose of the program is to inform the audience about what a suite is, how it began, and how it changed and developed through the course of history. Composers include Rutter, Telemann, Busser, and Widor.

The Hovan/Seitz Duo has been performing together since 1998. They have appeared in recital numerous times at Indiana University South Bend and Goshen College as well as local, regional and national conferences and as guest artists at other events. The duo enjoys crafting themed programs that intrigue and delight their audiences.  Selections include standard literature, little-known gems in the repertoire, and even something a bit out of the ordinary to create well-balanced, pleasing programs.

Rebecca Hovan has enjoyed a multi-faceted career as a performer, teacher, author, and arranger for over 35 years. She was the flutist for national tours of The King and I and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player throughout the United States.   Currently, she is the flutist for Ensemble Concept/21, a contemporary music ensemble based in South Bend, IN.  The group focuses primarily on new music for Pierrot ensemble (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano) with the frequent addition of percussion and/or vocalist.

Prior to touring, Rebecca was the Flute Instructor at Indiana University South Bend and Goshen College. Since returning from her most recent tour, she has continued to teach in her private studio.  She is a member of the National Flute Association and has served the organization in prominent leadership roles such as Masterclass Performers Competition Coordinator and Pedagogy Committee Chair.  In addition, she has contributed to the NFA as a reviewer of newly published materials for the Flutist Quarterly, the quarterly journal of the NFA.

Rebecca is co-author of several volumes in the award-winning Blocki Flute Method series.  She has also published arrangements of music from her CD, A Silver Christmas, as well as Wedding Collection, a volume of arrangements for flute and violin. She has presented numerous workshops and clinics at colleges and universities, professional conferences, and flute festivals at the local, regional, and national level. Her training includes a Master of Music from the University of North Texas where she was a Teaching Fellow in Flute and studied with Mary Karen Clardy.

Christine Larson Seitz currently serves as staff accompanist at Southwest Michigan College. Previously, she was the staff accompanist at Goshen College and has taught at Goshen College, Indiana University South Bend, and Bethel College. She has been a sought-after recital accompanist in the Michiana area and was the pianist and assistant director for the St. Joseph Valley Camerata for over 35 years. She was also the organist at First United Methodist Church in Mishawaka from 1987 until she retired from that position in 2017. Christine earned a bachelor’s degree in piano performance and a Master's degree in studio accompanying from Indiana University South Bend, studying under Robert Hamilton and John Owings.
