About the Event

Hannah Marks Quartet is Hannah Marks, double bass; Neta Raanan, tenor saxophone; Dave Adewumi, trumpet; Adam Arruda, drums. Marks’ compositions reflect her musical upbringing in folk and spirituals, while staying grounded in juxtaposing a newfound appreciation for creative improvisation and longtime love of jazz and rock. 

Hannah Marks is a bassist, bandleader, and composer living in New York City. As a bandleader, she has performed at several major festivals, including the Detroit Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, and Indy Jazz Festival. Her former project Heartland Trio’s debut album, Year One, was released in November 2018. Since moving to New York, Marks has played several notable sideman gigs, including one show at the reputable Jazz Gallery with Morgan Guerin’s quintet. While living in the Midwest, she played with Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III, Ingrid Jensen, Ben Wendel, Sullivan Fortner, Tierney Sutton, Delfeayo Marsalis, John Raymond, and Ann Hampton Callaway. Marks is a 2019 alumnus of Betty Carter Jazz Ahead, a 2018 alumnus of the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, and a 2014 alumnus of the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony.
