Chicago-based saxophonist and composer Greg Wahl’s latest collaboration with singer/songwriter Julia Minkin explores the theme of “a sense of place”. Greg’s atmospheric original compositions paired with Julia’s personal and poignant lyrics make this band a mesmerizing experience for the listener. The group’s distinctive sound draws from a number of stylistic influences including contemporary jazz, folk, and popular music, and features distinguished musicians Andrew Sudhibhasilp (guitar), Stefan Lenthe (bass), and Devin Drobka (drums).

“Over the past decade of my life, I’ve done a lot of moving back and forth between the U.S. and Europe, primarily between Chicago and Marseille, which I called home for seven years. During that time, much of my journaling gravitated around “a sense of place”--my feelings of displacement, my nebulous sense of “home,” but also the excitement of traveling back and forth between time zones, when my senses were briefly heightened and everything felt more vibrant, sharper. I often wished I could hang onto that feeling of “in-between-ness” a little longer. It always feels like fertile ground for creativity. The concept for these lyrics sprang from that. Though they are not directly about my travels, they do gravitate around these themes: a sense of place, an aliveness to one’s surroundings, and all the fertile “in-betweens” we traverse in our lives.” - Julia Minkin

Julia Minkin is a singer/songwriter from Chicago, primarily focusing on pop, folk, and jazz music. She began her career in 2014 with the French pop band Kid Francescoli, with whom she collaborated on two albums, With Julia and Play Me Again, contributing lyrics and music as well as vocals. Julia has contributed to a number of jazz projects, most recently in 2021 when her lyrics and vocals, as well as an original song, were featured on an album from jazz trumpetist Christophe Leloil, based in Marseille.  In Chicago, Julia and her husband, guitarist Andrew Sudhibhasilp, have shifted their focus to recording an album of original songs at their home studio.

Andrew Sudhibhasilp is a versatile guitarist originally from Marseille, France. Alongside his background in jazz, he has over a decade of experience playing Touareg Desert Blues music, and has performed in several international tours with the Touareg bands Terakaft and Tamikrest. He studied jazz guitar at Didier Lockwood Music Center in Paris, and Marseille’s National Conservatory.

Stefan Lenthe was born to a musical family and started playing the double bass at age 12 in the school orchestra. His highly personal and creative drumming can be heard within the realm of jazz having performed with Greg Osby, Jerry Bergonzi, Dayna Stephens, and Joe Lovano as well as indie- folk bands like Field Report and indie rappers R.A.P. Ferreira and Serengeti.
