About the Event
The Galen Bundy Piano Trio is a modern jazz group heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk music and Romantic era composers. Great importance is placed on the sensitivity of interaction between the three instruments, with group musicality valued over soloistic ideals. Featuring Jon Taylor on drums, and Hannah Marks on bass.
Galen Bundy is a pianist, organist, synthesist, composer, and arranger based in southern Michigan. He has studied jazz with Tad Weed, David Bixler, Jeff Halsey, Kevin Bales, and classically with Dr. George Lucktenberg. Galen received his undergraduate degree in jazz piano from Bowling Green State University in 2015, where he now works as a guest pianist for select concerts.
Hannah Marks is a bassist, bandleader, and composer living in Bloomington, IN. Hannah’s main project is her own band, Heartland Trio. She also plays as a sideman for several singer-songwriters, including The Voice runner-up Addison Agen, Grace Minnick, and Kacie Swierk. She has played with Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III, Ingrid Jensen, Ben Wendel, Sullivan Fortner, Tierney Sutton, Delfeayo Marsalis, John Raymond, and Ann Hampton Callaway. Marks is a 2018 alumnus of the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music, where she studied with Vijay Iyer, Rajna Swaminathan, Harish Raghavan, and Matt Brewer, among others. She will attend Betty Carter Jazz Ahead (with director Jason Moran) in May 2019.
