Our Home Grown Series presents the Don Lerman Quartet, performing a tribute to Woody Herman.

Clarinetist, saxophonist, vocalist, and bandleader leader Woody Herman was born in 1913 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For over five decades (1936-1987) Herman’s “Herds” and his other bands were among the most prominent and influential of the big band era. His groups featured musicians such as saxophonists Stan Getz, Flip Phillips, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, trumpeters Sonny Berman, Pete Condoli, vibraphonist Red Norvo, composers and arrangers Neal Hefti, Ralph Burns, and many others.  Woody and his groups performed worldwide and recorded over 60 studio and live recordings. The Don Lerman Quartet will include music from Woody’s early and later career in this musical tribute to the great Woody Herman.
