About the Event
Merrimans' Playhouse Homegrown Jazz Series presents the Don Lerman Quartet!
In this tribute to Gerry Mulligan, the Don Lerman Quartet will perform many original compositions from the great jazz baritone saxophonist whose long playing and recording career spanned from 1950-1995. Early in his career, Mulligan was a member and arranger in Miles Davis's "Birth of the Cool" nonet in the early 1950s and soon after formed the acclaimed "pianoless" quartet with Chet Baker. Other notable jazz figures that Mulligan performed with through the years were Ben Webster, Johnny Hodges, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, Zoot Sims, Bob Brookmeyer, and Dave Brubeck.
The Don Lerman quartet consists of Don Lerman on saxophone, Billy Foster on piano, Darrel Tidaback on bass, and Lannie Turner on drums. The quartet has previously presented at Merrimans' Playhouse tributes to the music of Lucky Thompson and Benny Carter.
