In Collaboration with Notre Dame's College of Science, Culture Café presents our first CHATS - "Culture, Humanities, and the Arts Through Science" Lecture Series. The Merrimans' Play-House Players will perform 7:30 - 8:30, then Dr. Seth Koren and guest speaker Prof. Dan Hooper will discuss "The Universe and Us"-- on cosmology and how this empirical understanding of the world can impact how we think about the arts, music, and humanity -- and Prof. Hooper will join in with the music to end the evening.
Prof. Hooper is the director of the Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is a celebrated researcher in the fields of particle cosmology and astroparticle physics. He co-hosts the podcast Why This Universe? and plays in The Spectral Distortions, the Universe’s premier physics punk band.
Prof. Hooper has authored three popular science books, Dark Cosmos (2006), Nature’s Blueprint (2008) and At the Edge of Time (2019), all critically acclaimed; and has recently written the definitive textbook for the fields…
