The Ben Schmidt-Swartz Quartet explores original music as well as some choice jazz standards that are meaningful to the band and fun to play. The aesthetic comes out of a tradition of decades of reference points from the great saxophone quartets from jazz history. From Coleman Hawkins, to John Coltrane; from Lester Young and Oscar Peterson to Dexter Gordon, this group hopes to honor, and continue in that legacy.
