An Elkhart native and recent Ball State graduate, Ben Davis has been playing at the Elkhart Jazz Festival for nearly a decade with a variety of groups, including Truth in Jazz, Generations Trio, and Yellow Creek Jazz Project. Ben has been active gigging around the Indianapolis area, recently performing at the historic Chatterbox Jazz Club in Indianapolis with trumpeter and mentor Mark Buselli. He has also had the incredible honor of performing at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola in NYC with the Ball State Jazz Ensemble.
A student of Indianapolis-based pianist Dr. Scott Routenberg, his creativity extends beyond just the keyboard, showing a knack for writing catchy melodies as a composer/arranger for small and large ensembles. His talents have earned him the Tom Shah Jazz Scholarship during his time at Ball State.
Ben Davis is a pianist, teacher, and composer currently based in Michiana. He has led his own trio, as well as Yellow Creek Jazz Project, and has performed with Truth In Jazz, Generations Trio, and the DECK Quartet. His creativity extends beyond his improvisational skills, as he has composed and arranged for a variety of groups, from jazz trio to strings to big band. He holds a degree in Jazz Studies from Ball State University, where he studied with Dr. Scott Routenberg, Mark Buselli, Freddie Mendoza, and Cassius Goens, and was the recipient of the Tom Shah Jazz Scholarship in 2022.
