Guitarists Chris Bober and Alex Anest will perform their original music in a duo setting at Merrimen’s Playhouse on Friday the 1st of September.

Chris Bober is a multi-influenced guitarist who is originally from Detroit, MI. He received a music performance degree from Bowling Green State University, studying with Chris Buzzelli (New York Voices) and Dan Lippel (International Contemporary Ensemble). Chris is also a social-science researcher who has focused on the study of music performance anxiety and social issues that impact musicians who play popular music. Chris has played with a wide-variety of musicians and groups, including Kevin McCarthy (New York), Dan Bruce (Chicago), Beautiful Loser (Santa Fe), Infinite Number of Sounds (Cleveland), J. Scott Franklin (Virginia/Ohio), Jeff Niemczura (San Francisco) and Tone & Niche (Detroit). He continues to play regularly with musicians across the Midwest. He is the proud founder of the Americana quartet The Desert Noir and the rock group The Jack Cameras.

Alex Anest is a guitarist, teacher, and bandleader currently based in Southeast Michigan. His projects as leader or co-leader have included The Alex Anest Organ Trio/Electric Four, Nomad, The Ann Arbor Guitar Trio, and Giraffe, among others. These groups focus on improvisation, groove, creativity, and most of all a commitment to connection, both among the group members and with the audience. Regardless of the setting, Alex is an inventive and exciting player. Alex holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University, and has studied with  Miles Okazaki, Benny Green, Ellen Rowe, Chris Buzzelli, and Jeff Halsey.
